Photos of the week: London 2012 Festival special
November 4th, 2011Take a look at what’s been going on at London 2012 this week:
Here we see an image of the Les Commandos Percu – just one of the many events forming part of the London 2012 Festival. This commission is a 12-week nationwide celebration bringing together leading artists from all over the world with the very best from the UK.
A lovely photo here of the legendary Arlene Phillips with dancers from the Big Dance project and artist Martin Creed, celebrating the launch of the London 2012 Festival. Come 2012, bells will be rung all across the UK as part of Creed’s unique project, marking the first day of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The BT River of Music, pictured here outside Somerset House, is sure to be a spectacular curtain raiser to the Games in 2012. It will be taking place in various iconic locations along the banks of the River Thames on the weekend of 21-22 July, a week before the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games.
My last image of this week but most certainly not least is of artist Tracy Emin with her own official London 2012 poster ‘Birds 2012′. Personally this is one of my favourite commissions as the words ‘You inspire me with you determination and I love you’ really capture the power of the Games, and the power sport can bring to others.
That’s all this weeks folks. I hope you have a lovely weekend whatever you end up doing!
